“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.”
(2 Corinthians 4:16, ESV)

We live in a busy, stressed-out valley. It is very important to our lives, especially our life in Christ, to rest and be renewed. The word “renew” as its found in the New Testament, generally means “to be moving from one stage to a higher, more developed stage.” As the word is used in the above verse, it specifically refers to God as He is ever-transforming the believer to maturity (see also Romans 12:2; Colossians 3:10; Psalm 103:1-5). So, we want to rest from our normal pace and programs so that we might be renewed in every area of our lives.

This is the motive behind what we as OCC would like to do in the month of August. We are only going to offer 2 official activities:

  • Normal Sunday Morning Services at 10:00 am. God commands the church to gather (Hebrews 10:24-25; 1 Corinthians 12) so, of course, we will be gathering each Sunday. We will be starting a new series, “Union With Christ” – another key doctrine of the Reformation and one that is key to our day to day lives as Christians.
  • Wednesday Morning Prayer, 6:30-7:30 am. We will meet at OCC for all 5 Wednesday mornings in August to pray for the church and for each other. You won’t regret meeting for prayer, even at this hour.

We are not going to rest from being the church. Rather, we are going to rest from our mid-week programs for one month in order to free up the schedule so that You can connect with others at OCC in intentional ways. Here’s some suggestions: invite someone to lunch, to coffee, to your home, to the park, one on one, in groups fo…fellowship, prayer, discipleship, counseling, encouragement, etc. Also, take time to reach out with the love of Christ to those who don’t know Him.
Let God use this time for renewal for you & your family

Note: This is not a jr. high dance, don’t wait for someone else to ask first!
